Wish you could write more and edit less?
What if you could get someone to do the edits for you?
What if you could get someone to do the edits for you?
Like a you’re-so-sick-of-staring-at-this-thing-can-you-foist-it-on-someone-else? kind of drag.
Or maybe a when-you’re-not-writing-you’re-not-getting-paid kind of drag.
And the mother of them all: the ain’t-nobody-got-time-for-that kind of drag.
I hear ya.
You want someone who can remove that editing load. You want more time for other things. More writing. More deep work. More time to breathe in an overstuffed schedule. More of whatever that isn’t editing.
Booyah.
And don’t forget the whole your-mind-plays-tricks-on-you thing when you edit your own work.
No, really. Turns out that miraculous thing in your noggin (i.e., your brain) sometimes sees what it knows should be there—what you meant to say— rather than what’s actually on the page or screen.
You know what I’m talking about. It’s that freakin’ typo your friend noticed on their first read of your work, but you missed all three times you proofed it.
ARGH!
So, lemme break it down to the brass tacks (à la Mike D).
You know having a second pair of eyes on your work helps cut down on mistakes.
Maybe you’ve even thought before about hiring an editor. But something’s always stopped you.
Too expensive.
Big ol’ cost swings in freelancers’ invoices make budgeting for your business hard.
Pricing structure seems kinda weird. Is it per word? Per page? Per hour? Rounds of revisions? WHAT?!?!?
Heard, chef.
Can I let you in on a secret? I dislike pricing by word counts, so I avoid it when I can.
Why? It’s incredibly fiddly. I’m not a fan of fiddly when it comes to pricing.
I’m guessing you probably aren’t either.
So, we’re dropping word counts like a hot potato in favor of something more predictable, more straightforward, and easier to understand.
Easier to understand, hard as hell to say five times fast. Go on, I dare you.
Pricing is based on a simple idea: The number of content/copy categories you choose determines your monthly fee.
That’s it. No word counts. No page limits.
No wild cost swings between itsy-bitsy next-to-nothings and huge budget-busting honkers.
Easy-peasy.
You can choose from these categories:
Your investment starts at just $545/month for one category. For each additional category, add $425/month.
If you’re ready to ditch the editing drag, free up more time in your schedule, and say goodbye to complicated project pricing, then drop me a line.
Google Docs and Microsoft Word.
Absolutely! While I generally don’t accept that format for documents in the Scintillatingly Straightforward Subscription Service, I’m happy to chat about your specific need to see if I can accommodate it another way.
Drop me a line using the contact form and I’ll be in touch within 48 business hours.
Yes! It would depend on my current workload, the scope of your project, and the timeframe in which you need it completed.
Drop me a line using the contact form and I’ll be in touch within 48 business hours.
You can get documents to me in several ways:
I’ll acknowledge the notification so you’ll know your document is on my radar. Once I’ve completed my edits, I’ll send the document back to you or I’ll tag you to let you know it’s complete.
I use “Suggesting” in Google Docs or “Track Changes” in MS Word. If I need to query you or explain an edit I made, I leave a comment.
You’re always the final arbiter of what edits get into the document’s final version. That’s the reason I use the “Suggesting” or “Track Changes” features: You’re free to accept or reject the changes as you see fit. And, of course, if you want me to look over a document after you’ve made changes to it, that’s part of the service, too.
If you have questions about why I made a particular edit or query, let me know! I’m always happy to have those discussions.
I’m most familiar with CMOS and AP style. If you have in-house style guides (including guidance on voice & tone) or follow certain conventions within your documents, I will absolutely make sure I follow those. It’s best if you can share a copy of your internal guidance with me, whether that’s a link to an online version or an emailed electronic copy.
Generally, 2–4 business days for Scintillatingly Straightforward Subscription Service projects up to around 3,000 words. If you send me a pile of things all at once, it might take me a little longer than that to get through them. The same is true for subscription service documents longer than 3,000 words.
If I’m doing a one-off, larger project for you, we’ll agree to a timeline before I start the work.
That depends on whether you’re adding another content type going forward or if it’s just a one-off item in an additional content category.
If you’re adding another content category going forward, I’ll prorate the $425 fee for that current month and invoice you for it. Your new monthly fee will be reflected starting on your next monthly invoice.
If it’s a one-off item (or a couple of them) in an additional content category, it’s $75 per additional item. And yes, even if that one thing is a teensy-tiny, two-paragraph email, it’s still $75.
Okay, time for some real talk.
I offer the one-off option because I know things happen and sometimes you need short-term help you didn’t think you would. I’ve been in that situation myself, and I want to help you out while still keeping all this as non-fiddly as I can. Too many variations on the theme make that difficult.
The easiest thing to do if you find yourself in this situation is to drop me a line so we can chat about a possible solution.
And here I’m going to emulate one of my old bosses and look at you over the top of my glasses for this next bit. And I hate that I need to say it.
Please don’t use the one-off option as a way around adding a monthly content category over the long-term. My mama didn’t raise no fool, as we like to say around these parts. I’ll leave it at that.
I’m happy to do a sample edit of up to 1,000 words for you after I learn about your business and your needs.
I don’t offer grant-writing services, but you’re correct that I was in that world for a long time.
If you’d like me to edit or proofread a grant for you, I’d consider doing it as a standalone project if I have room in my schedule. Drop me a line using the contact form and I’ll be in touch within 48 business hours.
If you’re evaluating a grant opportunity, check out this post for items to consider during your evaluation.
I’m also available for programmatic brainstorming sessions, project/timeline planning sessions, or mentoring sessions for new grant writers.
That’s dedication, my friend. For your effort, I’ll make the recap short.
TL;DR
Stop editing your own stuff.
Seriously.
Stop it.
Drop the editing drag and do more of whatever thing you want that isn’t editing.
I’m ready to chat whenever you are.
